Future Stars subdue Peterofac Cricket Club by 25 runs in the final of Kuwait Cricket League 2013-14. The match was played Friday last at Kuwait’s premier venue, Sulabiya Cricket Ground.
Petrofac skipper Nadeem Malik started the day on a happy note when he won the toss and elected to bowl first. FSCA lost the opener Irfan (10) early to be followed by Muhammad Khan (2). Petrofac appeared to be in control of the match when Hisham Mirza (11), Amin Chaudhry (Duck) and Sibtain Raza (1) were also removed in quick succession. Ali Zaheer offered some resistance with 17 runs but he was dismissed with the score board showing 49 runs.
From then on the rear guard action started as experienced Abdullah Khan and young all-rounder Abdul Jabbar, nick named JB, started building the innings slowly and cautiously. The partnership yielded match saving 47 runs when Abdullah Khan faded after having scored 30 valuable runs, including a grand six and a hit to the fence. But Abdul Jabbar found another dependable partner in Qasim Sadaqat as both added 27 runs for 8th wicket. On the last ball of the innings Qasim was out having scored 16 runs whereas JB remained unbeaten with 28 runs including a majestic six. FSCA managed 123 runs after losing 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Bowling honours for Petrofac were shared by Asghar and Adnan Idrees, picking up 3 and 2 wickets respectively after conceding identical 27 runs. Haroon Shahid claimed a wicket too as experienced Haness Babu was very economical with one for 16 from 4 overs.
Replying Petrofac started on disastrous note when Faizan removed Shaber (Zero) on the 4th ball of first over followed by hugely prized wicket of Nadeem Malik for first ball duck. In the very next over Sibtain Raza aggravated the situation further when he got rid of tremendously experienced campaigner Hanees Babu by holding the return catch. A run and four balls later Faizan struck again and this time his victim was dangerous looking Asghar. After having been reduced to 15 for 4 in just 13 balls Petrofac never recovered although middle and lower contributed in bits and pieces to take the total to 98 being being all out in 19.1 overs. Man of the Match, Faizan returned sensational figures of 4 for 19 whereas Ali Zaheer captured 3 wickets for 15 runs. JB 2 for 21 and Sibtain Raza one for 25 were the other bowlers to strike. The match was officiated by John Saloman and Sajjad Ahmed.
H E Ambassador Frank Baker and Mr. Haider Farman gave the KCS League winners’ cup to Mohammed Khan, captain of Future Star and runners up cup to captain of Petrofac, Nadeem Malik. Mr. Emad Jassam gave Player of the final award (POF) to Faizan and the Player of the tournament (POT) award to Irfan of Future Stars. Hafiz Mohammed Shabbir awarded a token of memory to ACC regional development officer Iqbal Sikander and Haider Farman, General Secretary of Kuwait Cricket present a memento to HE Ambassador of Sri Lanka for his kind support to Kuwait Cricket and interest to promote the noble game of cricket.
