French fries with a twist
June 15, 2014, 12:27 pm

Almost everyone ends a day of fun with their favourite snack, a plate of piping hot fries. The dish is among the most-loved food items around the globe and if you're a fast-food junkie, you can just about never get enough of these yummy delights. As much as we like our fries crisp and salted, food-lovers all over are giving a new spin to the typically made fries and adding little quirks of their own. Here are a few ways to give your potato cravings yet another boost!

Classic Style: Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, nothing really beats the classic way of making potato fries. To make them perfectly, just cut the potatoes into even sticks and rinse them thoroughly with thoroughly with some cold water. Now, fill a dry pan with some oil and heat it on medium to high heat. Put the sticks in them when the oil is heated up. Cook them till they turn golden-brown, take them out of the oil and add salt while they're still hot to retain the flavour and wait for them to cool down. Ta da! You have the perfect crisp fries, ready to be devoured.

Have 'Em Curly: Once you get the hang of how to make these curly taters right, they can be both fun to cook and delicious to eat. The most important thing to remember is to get the right kind of potatoes; medium to large would be ideal. Use a spiral slicer to cut the potatoes. You can use a variety of seasonings to give additional flavour. Put the fries into the oil and wait till they turn golden-brown. Drain the fries and add toppings that you would love to taste with potatoes.

Go Cheesy: Imagine combining two favourite mouth-watering foods: cheese and potatoes.  It makes for a delicious combo! So for your next party, try combining the two and you won't be disappointed. However, you have to cook them properly or you may just end up cooking a disaster! You can either place the cheese in a bowl or heat it up or you can simply sprinkle it on top of the fries when they're fresh and hot out of the oil. You can also get creative and add some more ingredients for taste, like flavoured butter.

Chilli and Lime:  Though we all love that tinge of lime and chilli, there are a few rules to follow to capture the right essence of these fries. After cutting the potatoes into even sticks, put them in a bowl of lime juice, oil, cayenne and salt. Toss this well to form a nice coat. Now, you can place these potatoes onto a baking sheet and bake for around 45 minutes till the desired brown colour is reached. Voila! Your piping hot, freshly baked chilli lime fries are ready to be relished.

Garlic and Herbs: Even though the name may not sound very appetising considering that not everyone has a taste for garlic, you could be left surprised at just how sumptuous these quirky taters can be! You can use a variety of herbs right from basil to lavender to rosemary. The scrumptious mixture can take a normal dish from good to delicious. Sauté with some butter and garlic for that added flavour, toss with some parsley, salt and pepper and enjoy.
