Scanners in place to detect weapons, explosives

The Ministry of the Interior has issued strict instruction to all security sectors to put down any unlicensed demonstrations and gatherings to prevent chaos in the country which may hurt the security situation, reports Annahar daily quoting high-level security sources.

The sources said the instructions were issued after the security authorities web sites and Twitter users incited people to take to the streets to vent their ‘anger’ and clash with the security authorities. The sources added the ministry has taken all precautionary measures to nip in the bud any such attempts to prevent the breach of security, law and the Constitution.

The sources said unlicensed gatherings will be met with full force. Breaking the law is a punishable act and will be dealt with accordingly, said the sources.

The sources revealed the Cyber Crimes at the Criminal Investigations departments have spotted 50 political activists, journalists, well-known tweeters and former MPs who are inciting people to organize rallies and clash with the security forces.

The Kuwait General Administration of Customs (KGAC) said personnel working at the sea and land ports are provided with hi-tech scanners to detect explosives and weapons of any type, reports Al-Anba daily quoting a reliable source.

This was done following attempts by truckers and people arriving by boats to smuggle contraband into the country. The source pointed out all trucks and vehicles arriving from politically unstable countries will be thoroughly searched.

The source explained these scanners are different from those in operation at the airport. The scanners at the airport are specially designed to detect narcotics. The source said the current unstable situation in the region has forced the country to take all precautionary measures to protect the citizens and people living here.
