First ASEAN Film Week organized in Kuwait

ASEAN Committee in Kuwait (ACK), in collaboration of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Kuwait (NCCAL), organized the first-ever ASEAN Film Week at the National Library of Kuwait from 3 – 8 December. The film festival was one of several activities organized by ACK in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), which comprises of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The ASEAN Film Week 2017, which showcased the vibrant culture, tradition and art of these 10 nations through the medium of movies, was designed to encourage understanding of the distinct culture of these varied countries.

The week-long festival featured movies that drew attention to the day to day lives of some of the characters through highly emotive scenes that brought out the joy, the sorrow, the humor and the hopes of ordinary people in the region.

The films featured at the festival, which have earned wide popularity and critical acclaim for being some of the best representations of South Asian cinema included, Polis Evo and ‘Terbaik Dari Langit’ (Malaysia); Kayan Beauties (Myanmar); Habibie and Ainun (Indonesia); Ada Apa Dengan Rina (Brunei Darussalam); ‘The Overture’ (Thailand); Only Love (Laos) and Bayan Ko (Philippines).
