Organizations, which are registered members of the Filipino Community in Kuwait, arrived early morning at the Judo of Hall of Qadsiya Club to participate in the official launch of the first Filcom sports festival. The event was organized to mark the opening of the sports fest and registration for the participants of different sports events. Hundreds attended the much awaited Zumba class.
The event kicked off with the introduction of different organizations followed by the singing of the Philippines and Kuwait national anthems. Prayers were also said by Pastor Gil Bantugan and Yusoph Capal. Special messages were delivered by Consul General Atty. Raul Dado, Labor Attaché Atty. Cesar Chavez and President of FilCom Oliver Diong. Pinoy Zumba Lovers led the members of different organizations to an hour of fun and sweat with a Zumba workout. The estimate is that 670 participants were present during the exercise.
Popular singers Mark Lopez, Arthur Ganiron, Abby Dado and Mark “Boy Rapper” rendered impressive vocal renditions. Catsclaw members showcased an exciting exhibition of martial arts, dance numbers were performed from winners of Little Mr. and Ms. Philippines and members of CIA and Hyper Quest Crew gave impressive performances. Parlor games followed immediately after the performances before an hour long break and later, a series of band groups performed to the delight of the crowd.
OFWs in Qatar has been known to have the biggest number of Zumba attendees yet with the recent launch of the sports fest it was proven that Kuwait has double the number of Qatar’s attendees to 670 in attendance. Gwen Chavez, spouse of Philippine Labor Attache and mentor of Pinoy Zumba Lovers stated: “I am overwhelmed with the attendance and proud to have mentored and started this class with fitness director Ricky Laxa. His energy, creativity, passion and dedication to charity are incomparable. We are truly grateful for his presence and great workout. We also take pride in announcing that we are now the biggest exercise group in the Middle East”.
Vengie Gernale of Western Union commented that WU is always in support of the Filipino community in Kuwait and extends her congratulations to all the organizations which came and participated in the sports festival opening. Leaflets and flyers were distributed to everyone present.
In a brief interview with the Labor Attaché Atty. Chavez, he said that POLO and OWWA will always support the projects of FilCom and with such projects promote unity and camaraderie among Filipinos in the country. Atty. Chavez also lauded the organizations for taking time from their weekly activities to take part in such huge project and showed their support towards other organizations and the communities. He hopes that the sports fest will be huge success. Consul General Atty. Raul Dado praised the organizations for making the event possible for the community to enjoy and thanked everyone who came to the occasion.
