Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh said in remarks published on Sunday that increasing the service charges is a "State project" to rationalize spending and re-examine subsidies. The minister, who made his remarks in an interview with the daily newspaper, "Al-Rai," said increasing service fees is a complex issue and needs careful economic and technical studies, adding that the goal is to secure stability, whether oil prices continue to fall or rise.

Minster Al-Saleh noted that the government will discuss this matter with the National Assembly adding that the government will legislate to increase the fees without harming limited-income people, with keenness on maintaing their living standards. He stressed on strengthening the principle of rationing and a sense that the government spends on services that benefit citizens and residents, indicating that the increase of electricity and water fees, for example, will not affect the cash-strapped people.
