FM says KICRI a message the world supports rebuilding Iraq

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said Sunday that Kuwait International Conference for the Reconstruction of Iraq (KICRI) main message is that international community support Iraq during the war against terrorism and support Iraq in its reconstruction.

"Iraq is a resource rich country and it needs the support of its brothers, friends and the international community to help through investment projects, financing Iraqi government reviewed projects and its economic development," Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said, in a press conference held on the sidelines of the inauguration of the media center.

In response to a question about expectations on the outcome on these meetings, he said they are counting on the international community to send a clear message to Iraq that the international community as it is with them in defeating terrorist groups, "the international community will be with them in the reconstruction of Iraq," he said.

The minister expressed confidence that this conference will be a platform for the start of new Iraq strong on its security, stability and reconstruction and that history will remember this beginning, which was kicked off with KICRI.

When asked about the figures expected to be announced at the conference, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said that the extent of participation, contribution, and interaction in all sectors is first will be measured, and later how Iraq can through its own capabilities rise once again from the past dark period, and as long as the international community sends a clear message of support to Iraq.

The minister pointed out that "Kuwait deals with the Iraqi government being a representative of all factions of the Iraqi people," stressing Kuwait's keenness to respond to all aspects presented by the Iraqi government in this matter.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled added that the international community is fully aware of the capabilities and potential of Iraq, pointing out that Iraq needs the support of the international community to strengthen its security and stability.

On Kuwait's role in persuading companies to invest in Iraq, the minister replied that Kuwait is facing great pressure from companies to give them an opportunity to participate in this conference.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled noted that the driving force behind all this is the Iraqi government, which fought for many years on behalf of the whole world against terrorist organization and this will lead it to stability and reconstruction.

Regarding US Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson visit and participation in the conference, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said Tillerson is due to participate in the conference and they will discuss Kuwaiti-US relations during his visit and all issues of common concern.
