Exciting day for FOCC – 'DNV-GL CRYcket 2014' concluded

Organized by Friends of CRY Club – Kuwait (FOCC-Kuwait) “CRYcket” is an annual softball cricket tournament, for children under 14, played in 7-over match format, and completed in a single day. The tournament is open to all children, who may organize themselves in teams with participants from any school, nationality or locally.

This year’s ‘DNV-GL CRYcket 2014’ tournament, which was sponsored by “DNV-GL” was held on 11 April at Fahaheel Sports Club. The U-14 trophy was clinched again by “Cricket Coaching Club (CCC)”, whereas “DPS Blue Warriors” were victorious in the U-12 category. The runners-up trophies were grabbed by “Reggae Cricket Club (RCC)” and “Pace-XI Juniors-B” respectively. The best player award in the U-14 category was earned by Ahmed Khandwala (of RCC) and in the U-12 category it was Ansh Mundra (of CCC).

The DNV-GL CRYcket is not just a tournament, it is also a festival, with display of colorful team uniforms, bright clothes and fun-filled mood. This year, everyone’s enthusiasm knew no bounds with the full grass turf and perfect weather. As always expected and delivered, everyone displayed spirit of friendship, competition and above all true sportsmanship. Although the tournament had to be pushed into April, for technical reasons, thankfully all went well.

M/s DNV-GL – Kuwait Branch, sponsored the event, which was also co-sponsored by Payal Jewelers and Hussein & Qaiser International Ltd. We also thank other sponsors Career Hunters, BankMuscat, Malabar Gold & Diamond, City Clinic Intl., Kuwait Cricket and Well wishers. The event’s mainstays were the Umpires from Kuwait Cricket Association and the scorers who are all experts in their field.

The Kid’s Corner and other activities were duly supported by Cry Buddies Miriam, Moiz, Syed Asad, Syed Kumail, Dev Sharma, Yousof, Qaisarali, Enaam and Somesh. Children who devoted their time for the event. The usual Buy for CRY stall had loads of new toys on bargain sale, which were donated by good Samaritans. The Raffle draw was again hugely successful with 10 fabulous prizes to be won.

The participating teams in the “DNV-GL CRYcket 2014” tournament were: Under-14 Category: Cricket Coaching Club (CCC), DPS Spartans, Evershine, NCC’s Pace-XI, Mangaf Cricket Club, Q8 Kerala NRI Jr. and Riggae Cricket Coaching (RCC) Seniors.
The Under-12 Category had Cricket Coaching Club, DPS Blue Warriors, DPS Red Titans, DPS-C, NCC’s Pace-XI Juniors-A, NCC’s Pace-XI Juniors-B, Kuwait Cricket Young Masters, Riggae Cricket Coaching Juniors, Rising Stars and Young Cricket Academy. A special mention about ‘Kuwait Cricket Young Masters’, who were an all-girls team participating in the CRYcket’s history for the first time. Three cheers to them.

Country Manager for DNV-GL, Mr. Gireesh Sriraman graced the occasion as Chief Guest. We are thankful for his commitment to CRYcket over the years. He later congratulated all the participants and presented the trophies to the winning teams, who were cheered and applauded. Medals and certificates from CRY India were also presented to all participants.

The FOCC’s Souvenir was also released which included a motivating message from India’s Ambassador to Kuwait, HE Shri Sunil Jain, a brief on the FOCC supported project “Manav Ashrita Sansthan (MAS)” in India, insights into FOCC’s activities as well as names of all the participants.

This year was exciting for CRY India as they added yet another accolade to their repertoire by winning the ‘Jamnalal Bajaj Award’ for ‘Fair Business Practices’ in the NGO Category for outstanding achievement / contribution in adhering to the highest ethical practices and transparency in CRY’s dealings and percolates all the way to its associated groups including FOCC.
