The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Adel Al-Huweidi, sentenced Twitter user Ahmad Al-Ashour to two years in jail with guarantee of KD 1,000 to suspend implementation of the verdict for three years and instructed him to maintain good conduct.
Previously, the Public Prosecution released Al-Ashour on bail of KD 2,000 after interrogating him as he was accused of uttering words deemed offensive to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through his personal Twitter account.
Meanwhile, the same court sentenced former MP Mubarak Al-Duweilah to two years in prison with a guarantee of KD 1,000 to suspend the verdict for three years and for him to maintain good conduct. The verdict was issued in relation to a television interview, in which he was accused of offending a friendly country — the United Arab Emirates. Al-Duweilah denied all charges filed against him.
