The State Audit Bureau has called the attention of the Health Ministry regarding the remaining stocks of unused and expired medicines and medical products with an estimated value of KD894,000, reports Al-Jarida daily. In its report, the bureau asked the ministry to take into consideration the demand for medicines based on actual need as part of efforts to rationalize the general expenditures.
Responding to the bureau, the ministry explained some medicines and medical products, especially those for cancer treatment, are acquired as per the request and actual need of patients. The ministry said certain medicines cannot be used due to the death of some patients, indicating a few pharmaceutical psychotropic substances were disposed in coordination with the concerned authorities.
