Private preschools will be affiliated to the Ministry of Education according to a recent decision by the cabinet, an official revealed on Saturday.
The issue has been referred to the Fatwa and Legislative Department to decide on a mechanism for the transfer, Ministry of Education Undersecretary Dr. Haitham Al-Athari said in a press statement.
He added that there is a joint committee from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor and the Ministry of Education for the purpose, yet "it is proper to wait until the Fatwa and Legislative Department concludes a vision on a mechanism." Then the two ministries will coordinate implementation of the mechanisms.
Al-Athari noted that KGs will have their independent administration, affiliated to the General Administration for Private Education. He quashed reports that owners of the preschools must be educators.
Meanwhile, the ministry official said that fees of non-state schools will not be increased until the Educational Committee at the National Assembly accomplishes the private education law.
He also noted that the ministry is carrying on with its plan to promote education.
