EU: No increase in migrant arrivals to Europe through central Mediterranean
August 6, 2016, 8:16 am

This year so far about 90,000 migrants have arrived in Europe through the central Mediterranean route which corresponds more or less to the number for the same period last year, a spokesperson for the European Commission, Tove Ernst, told journalists here Friday.

"We have seen no notable change as compared to the same period of the last year," she added.

On her part, deputy chief European Commission spokesperson Mina Andreeva told journalists that the "result of lower figures proves that the action that we are taking continuously at the European level but also with international partners is paying off on the European agenda on migration for the past fifteen months."
