Durrar Toastmasters club celebrates first Anniversary

Durrar Toastmasters club, which was chartered on 22 January, 2015, celebrated its first Charter anniversary on Saturday, the 23 January, 2016. Division I Director Dr. Mohammed Makhlouf and Area 36 Director Dileep Thomas and many senior Toastmasters were present on the occasion. Durrar TM Club was chartered last year with 22 members and has 28 members presently.

On the occasion, the maiden edition of the club magazine, Durrar Toast, was also released. The club proposes to publish its magazine regularly on a quarterly basis. A remarkable feature of the anniversary celebrations was that the meeting was held jointly with Durrar Gavel Club. The Gavel club, sponsored by Durrar Toastmasters club in December 2015, caters to the aspirations of children who are interested in developing their communication and leadership skills.

Durrar Toastmasters club is affiliated to Toastmasters International, which is a 91 year old non-profit organization with the mission of empowering “individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders” with a global network of 14,650 clubs in 126 countries. Since its inception last year, the club has been an active club with its members winning accolades and completing milestones in record time.

This month the club embarks on Speech Contests. Toastmaster clubs across the globe conduct speech contests in multiple categories annually culminating with the Toastmasters International Convention that crowns the World Public Speaking Champion.

Durrar Toastmasters club set the dais ablaze with the Humorous Speech Contest and the Table Topics contest held on 6 February. A second round of contests comprising of the International Speech Contest and the Evaluation contest will be held a fortnight later on 20 February.

The Executive Committee of the club, led by President  Alka Kumra, appreciates the support of Al Mulla International Finance Co. and Kuwait College of Science and Technology who sponsored the Club's charter anniversary, the contests and the publication of the club magazine.
