A surprise inspection tour of Khaitan area by a top leader of the country exposed a number of security shortcomings at a time when the country is on alert due to the regional situation, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to sources, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah was driving alone in Khaitan area recently when he was surprised to note lack of any security presence of either police, rescue or traffic patrols in the area except a single patrol vehicle parked in front of a cafÈ with no patrolmen inside it. He searched for the patrol officers of the parked patrol vehicle and found them sitting inside the cafÈ and smoking sheesha.
He immediately noted the names of the two officers and notified the Control and Inspection Department ordering them to take legal action against the two officers. The sources revealed that the minister has summoned Farwaniya Security Director and Security Commander of Khaitan area to his office to obtain detailed explanation for the clear security shortcomings in Khaitan area which is overpopulated with expatriates. Meanwhile, an unidentified drug addict has been arrested for attempting to rob a jewelry shop in Farwaniya area, reports Al- Shahed daily. According to security sources, the suspect was disoriented when he entered the jewelry shop in Farwaniya, and he demanded two salesmen to hand over jewels and money to him.
