The Interior Ministry's traffic department intensified its efforts to face the problem created by the formation of sand dunes on expressways. The department prepared a comprehensive study on this phenomenon, after several traffic accident were reported on these roads. A security source said the traffic department held several meetings with concerned government bodies to discuss the reason of this phenomenon.
The study recommended allocating funds for the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) to remove the sand periodically, especially with the start of the summer season, which sees an increase in sand storms. The roads that experience this phenomenon include the Salmy, Abdaly, Newaiseeb, Wafra, and Um Safaq roads.
