The Pharmacotherapy Services Department in collaboration with the Public Relations and Media Services, as well as the Clinical Services Departments of Dasman Diabetes Institute, which was established by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, launched the 7th community outreach activity, "Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) Prevention Campaign" at Sharq mall in Kuwait city on Thursday, 8 May 2014, from 10 am till 6 pm.
This campaign aimed to enhance the awareness of the public in the State of Kuwait about the signs of an early diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes in children to avoid or to minimize the development of a life-threatening condition known as diabetic ketoacidosis through identifying and recognizing one of the primary symptoms of the condition such as night bedwetting.
The event involved various activities including blood sugar screening services in addition to distribution of educational material. Clinical Pharmacists and Medical Information Specialists were available to answer the questions of the visitors regarding DKA and Diabetes in general. A satisfaction survey was conducted and its results revealed that most of the visitors were highly satisfied with the DKA campaign and the accompanying activities.
