The Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to submit an official letter to the Passports and Nationality sector to stop the work on ‘special passport’ of Shiite lawmaker Abdul hamid Dashti who has been sentenced in absentia to 11 years imprisonment.
He was jailed for insulting H.H. the Amir and criticizing the neighboring state of Saudi Arabia. Reliable sources said Dashti uses the special passport to move between Schengen countries.
This special passport is given to certain people for a period of time which ranges between 5 and 10 years but for the lawmakers it is given for only five years. Reliable sources said the validity of such special passports will expire after two months after the convening of the last session.
If any MP does not file nomination papers and if a contesting MP fails to regain his seat, the special passports are withdrawn.
In the same context, the daily learned from the security sources that the Kuwaiti Interpol has sent a request to prevent Dashti from using his special passport. The sources made clear that Dashti uses his ordinary passport not the special status passport issued to MPs.
