Cutting across party lines, political leaders converge to welcome veteran Indian Parliamentarian

Amply demonstrating that there are no enemies in Indian politics but only ideological rival, leaders from all political spectrums sat together on a single platform to pay their respect to Samajwadi party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, the veteran Indian Parliamentarian.  The occasion was his birthday and release of Yadav book “Sangharsh ke Prayog” by Vice president Hamid Ansari at a glittering function held at India Islamic Cultural Centre.

There was Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from the BJP, senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, Oscar Fernandez and Pramod Tewari, Left front leader Atul Anjaan, RJD President Laloo Prasad Yadav, Samajwadi supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, UP speaker Mata Prasad who rubbed should shoulder with each other on stage.

Releasing the book Vice president Hamid Ansari said that the book will inspire youngsters due to its social and political philosophy. Prof. Yadav’s views reflect a strong faith in the democratic process. “Though he speaks less in Rajya Sabha yet whenever he speaks it is with substance.” He congratulated Prof. Yadav on this book based on his speeches.

BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that he had shared a long relationship with Prof Yadav and was deeply impressed with his commitment to Parliament and democracy.  “Whenever Prof Yadav stands to speak, there is always a lesson.  I have always admired his words.”

Congress leader Digvijay Singh also complimented Prof Yadav for his contribution to the Indian Parliament and said his mere presence instill confidence. “Whatever he speaks, it makes a sense and give direction to the proceedings in Parliament” Singh said while adding that there were lots of issues they have shared and discussed in Parliament.

In his inimitable style, Laloo Prasad Yadav described Prof Yadav as a pillar in Parliament for his secular outlook and total commitment to democracy.  “I have come here to pay my tributes as he deserves this for the long inning that he played as a wonderful Parliamentarian”. While accepting Prof Yadav contribution in the various speeches that he gives in Parliament, SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said on many occasion I consult Prof Yadav for input.  “At different occasion he himself volunteers to give his input and I usually incorporate it”.

Left front leader Atul Anjaan also paid handsome tribute to Prof Yadav and said that people like him are needed in India politics to cement secularism and substance in the Parliamentary debates.

Congress leader Pramod Tewari also spoke on the occasion. Organised by two senior SP leaders Rajesh Dikshit who compeered the proceedings and Jamshed Zaidi, the function was attended by the entire UP cabinet, several MPs from various political parties.” We are extremely happy at the turnout at this function” said both Dikshit and Zaidi.

Prof Yadav is considered as an iconic politician in India and has been in Indian parliament since 90’s.  He represented many committees in Parliament and is considered as main think tank of his Samajwadi party.  Prof Yadav has also been in forefront in many Parliamentary proceedings and is known as the main architect in evolving consensus on various contentious issues. His book is a collection of his speeches in Parliament.
