Undersecretary at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Matar Al- Mutairi Friday announced that the sector has issued the first citation against a public utility institution for collecting donation from an unnamed mosque illegally.
Dr. Al-Mutairi affirmed that the institution violated the rules and regulations set by the ministry for collecting donations despite the several warnings issued against donations collected without license, noting the concerned authority will take necessary legal action against the violator.
In a statement, Dr. Al-Mutairi said, “some weak souls are taking advantage of the month of blessings to collect donations and tarnishing the image of Kuwait’s charity work”. He called upon those who want to donate to make sure the collector bears a card from the Ministry of Social Affairs and donates through ‘K-Net’ or through bank, while receipts issued must bear the ministry’s stamp.
He emphasized the collection of money in mosques is strictly prohibited and that such activities are only allowed in the headquarters of charity organizations on condition that donors are handed out receipts. He named the organizations licensed to collect donations as follows; Direct Aid, Kuwait Foundation for Islamic Science, Islamic Heritage Revival Organizations, Al-Islah Society, Al- Najat Charity Organization, Patient Aid Fund, Takaful for Inmates welfare care, Abdullah Al-Nouri Charity Organization, Bashayer Al-Kheir, Al- Thaqaleini Charity Society, International Islamic Charity Society, and Kuwait Rescue.
