Geroge Clooney says his wedding to Briton Amal Alamuddin will take place in Venice in a few weeks, Italy’s Ansa news agency reported Sunday.
Clooney, 53, publicly professed his love for Alamuddin, 36, on Sunday, saying he could hardly wait to be her husband. The couple was taking part in Celebrity Fight Night, a dinner to benefit the Andrea Bocelli Foundation and the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
“I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places,” said Clooney, according to the Daily Mail, as he accepted an award. “He also said to Amal [from the podium], ‘I love you very much,’” a source said.
Alamuddin, radiant in a black Dolce & Gabbana gown with gold accessories, effortlessly stole the show. Clooney looked rather happy about that state of affairs as he led his bride-to-be into the fundraising gala at Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio. Details of the Clooney-Alamuddin wedding have been kept under wraps since the engagement was announced in April. However, Clooney’s comments and sightings of Alamuddin in London indicate the day is nearing.
Alamuddin, a human rights lawyer, on Friday gave formal notice that she will marry Clooney in Italy at London’s Chelsea Registry office, the New York Daily News reported on Saturday. British citizens who intend to marry outside Britain must file notice with the local registry. Alamuddin also was spotted on Friday at the design house of Alexander McQueen in East London accompanied by her mum and a friend. It is the same design house that made Kate Middleton’s royal wedding dress in 2011.
