Classic lemonade recipe twists

Cold, refreshing lemonade is one of the easy-prepare drinks to help get through the sizzling summer weather. You could always go for the basic recipe which involves mixing a cup of fresh juice from 10 to 12 lemons, ½ cup sugar, a pinch of salt, three cups of cold water, and served in ice-filled glasses. But if you are in a mood to experiment, try the following twists to the classic lemonade recipe.

Spicy Strawberry-Jalapeño Lemonade

Ingredients

4 cups strawberries,
hulled and split in
quarters lengthwise
1/2 jalapeño pepper,
seeds and ribs
removed, cut into four
pieces
3/4 cup sugar
Pinch salt
1 cup fresh juice from
10 to 12 lemons
3 cups cold water
4 cups ice

Directions

Combine strawberries, jalepeño slices, sugar, and salt in a medium bowl and toss to coat. Let rest for 30 minutes. Remove and discard jalapeño slices. Set aside one cup of macerated strawberries for garnish. Transfer remaining strawberries and any exuded juices and syrup into a blender. Add lemon juice. Blend on high speed until smooth (about a minute). Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard solids. Add reserved strawberries and cold water and whisk to combine. Add ice. Serve in ice-filled glasses garnished with a strawberry and a jalapeño slice.

 

Raspberry Limeade

Ingredients
4 cups raspberries
1 cup fresh juice from about 20 limes
1/2 cup sugar
Pinch salt
3 cups cold water
4 cups ice
Raspberries and lime wedges for serving

Directions

Combine raspberries, lime juice, sugar, and salt in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth (one minute). Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard solids. Add cold water and whisk to combine. Add ice. Serve in ice-filled glasses garnished with raspberries and lime wedges.

Watermelon-Mint

Ingredients

8 cups, 3cm seedless watermelon chunks
1 cup fresh juice from 10 to 12 lemons
1/2 cup sugar
Pinch salt
Cold water as needed
1 small bunch mint
4 cups ice

Directions

Place watermelon, lemon juice, sugar, and salt in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth (about a minute). Strain through a fine mesh strainer into 1-liter liquid measuring cup. Add cold water to equal one liter. Place mint in the bottom of a pitcher and muddle lightly with a wooden spoon. Add watermelon mixture and stir to combine. Add ice. Serve immediately in ice-filled glasses garnished with mint sprigs.

Fizzy Ginger Lemonade

Ingredients

2-inch knob ginger, peeled and cut into small
chunks
1 cup fresh juice from 10
to 12 lemons
1/2 cup sugar
Pinch salt
1 cup cold water
2 cups club soda
4 cups ice

Directions

Combine ginger, lemon juice, sugar, salt, and water in a blender. Blend on high speed for a minute. Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Add club soda and ice and stir to combine. Serve immediately in ice-filled glasses.

Cucumber-Basil Lemonade with Lemongrass

Ingredients

1 medium cucumber, cut into rough chunks
2 stalks lemongrass, bottom four inches only,
roughly chopped
2 cups loosely packed basil leaves
1 cup fresh juice from 10 to 12 lemons
1/2 cup sugar
Pinch salt
3 cups cold water
4 cups ice
Cucumber slices and basil leaves for garnish

Directions

Combine cucumbers, lemongrass, basil, lemon juice, sugar, and salt in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth (about a minute). Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard solids. Add cold water and whisk to combine. Add ice. Serve in ice-filled glasses garnished with cucumber slices and basil leaves.

Honey-Basil Lemonade

Ingredients

1 cup fresh juice from 10
to 12 lemons
1/2 cup honey
2 cups loosely packed
basil leaves
Pinch salt
3 cups cold water
4 cups ice
Basil leaves for garnish

Directions

Combine lemon juice, honey, basil leaves, and salt in a blender. Blend on high speed until smooth (about a minute). Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard solids. Add cold water and whisk to combine. Add ice. Serve in ice-filled glasses garnished with basil leaves.
