A dinner banquet was held at the Crowne Plaza on 1 January with the attendance of Indian Embassy officials, members of the Public Service Undertaking (PSU’s) and prominent members of the Indian Community in honour of the new Country Manager-designate of Air India, Kuwait, Harjeet Sawhney.

The ceremony heralded a new beginning with Harjeet Sawhney, and also, allowed the gathering to bid farewell to Hirak Mukherjee, who was the Country Manager-Kuwait for the past three years and will shortly be leaving Kuwait to join Eastern Region.

In very emotional speeches, Yousef Al Bader, the President and Abraham David, Vice President of House of Travel (GSA of Air India in Kuwait), said fond farewells to Mr.Mukherjee, who tirelessly worked for the betterment of Air India-Kuwait station, the GSA, staff members, the travel fraternity and the traveling public.

Raj Gopal Singh, Charge d’Affaires and Jaladhi Mukherjee, Second Secretary from the Indian Embassy, Kuwait, who had interacted with Mr. Mukherjee, recounted that they could always count on his support for any community matters with regard to travel issues.  Members of PSU’s said they will miss Mr. Mukherjee because he is a warm-hearted person, a faithful friend and a wonderful host.

Mr. Sawhney is a simple and fun-loving person from Delhi, who had served Air-India for well over three-and-a-half decades. He joined Air India upon completing his graduation, and has worked at various stations in India like Mumbai, Bhuj, Indore, Goa as well as Regional & Corporate Headquarters in various capacities.  Mr. Sawhney will certainly be an asset to the Kuwait station with his past experience as Country Manager, Abu Dhabi.

With his sound experience in airport handling matters and working in different departments like Marketing and Scheduling, Mr. Sawhney is well equipped to smoothly handle any challenge of the Kuwait Station. He has a firm commitment to ensure desired services to all customers.

His wife, Mrs. Reena, is a home-maker and takes care of his mother as well as maintains the entire family/social commitments.  The couple have a daughter Geethika, who is a CA, completed her MBA-Fin. and is currently pursuing CPA.  Their son, Harikrishen, is in the final year of BSc in IT and will be pursuing his MBA in Paris.

Mr. Sawhney is wholeheartedly welcomed as the new Country Manager of Air India with a hope that he will elevate Air India’s operations in Kuwait to a memorable height. Both Mr. Sawhney and Mr. Mukherjee are wished the very best in their endeavours.
