The British Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Matthew Lodge hosted a reception at his residence to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
The chief guest on the occasion, Kuwait’s Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah, along with a large gathering of members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, local business and social elites, as well as representatives of the British community and media personnel, joined in celebrating the queen’s birthday.
Welcoming his guests, Ambassador Lodge said: “It is a huge honor and a privilege to stand in the beautiful gardens of this historic residence as British Ambassador on such a happy occasion. For nearly 20 months, I have observed first-hand the close relationship between our two countries and have seen the depth and breadth of the ties that connect us.”
He further added that at the start of the year he had the privilege to join Kuwait is celebrating the 55th anniversary of independence, 25th anniversary of liberation and the 10th anniversary of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s ascension to the throne.
For his part Sheikh Mohammed reiterated the strong and enduring relations that bind Kuwait and Britain. He said the mutual friendship, which began with the Protection Agreement signed in 1899 were bolstered over the years and further cemented by British support to Kuwait in 1990 during the Iraqi invasion.
