Appreciating the great social work done by the Dawoodi Bohra community, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged the religious head of the Bohra community Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin to continue their development work.

The Prime Minister appreciated the social reform efforts of the Dawoodi Bohra community and said the Union Government fully supported these initiatives. The Prime Minister also appreciated the progress made by the Dawoodi Bohra community in the development of the Bhendi Bazaar area of Mumbai as a smart city.

Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, accompanied by a nine-member delegation, had called on Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on 28 February. During his visit to Delhi, the Syedna also met with Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi.

Speaking at a felicitation function organized in his honor at the India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC), the Syedna told the vast gathering that Islam preaches peace, tolerance and brotherhood and that this message should be spread all over the world.  “We must put all our effort in that direction,” he said.

While alluding to the diversity of Indian society, the Syedna said that like flowers of many colors and shapes existing together and reflecting the bounty of nature, India too has much diversity and has assimilated many stream of thoughts that combined to form its unique composite culture.  “We should be proud of our land,” he added.

Thanking the gathering for the great love and affection showered on him, he said that his community would walk together with everyone to make India stronger and more peaceful.  “This will be our strength,” he pointed out.

In his felicitation address, IICC President Sirajuddin Qureshi said that it was a great honor and privilege to host his eminence Syedna Mufaddal whose work for development of the nation needed no description. He noted, “The Syedna is an epitome of selfless service with an unwavering concern for the development of humanity as a whole.”

The Syedna was later conferred with the Honorary Life Membership of IICC and presented with a shawl and memento by Mr. Qureshi. A large number of diplomats, politicians and academician attended the function.  Union Minister for Minority Affairs Najma Heptullah, senior leader of Samajwadi Party Jamshed Zaidi, AMU Vice Chancellor Zamiruddin Shah and Pro Vice Chancellor Ahmad were among those present on the occasion.
