The Upper Kindergarten classes of Bhavan’s IES had a whale of a time visiting the local market. The sojourn was solely to pragmatize the thematic, curricular approach of engaging children in the learning process in a more sensible manner and helping them create correlation between schoolroom knowledge and real life scenarios.
As part of the instructional methodology of the curricular theme, ‘Fruits and Vegetables’, the students of UKG were given an opportunity to visit the nearby Fruit and Vegetable market on a field trip on 26, 27 and 28 May. The students were thrilled to bits, buying, snapping and discussing everything in sight! They were familiarized with the names of fruits and vegetables which were once nameless to them.
The follow-up session also was enormously enlightening as the teachers discussed the nutritional value of these fruits and vegetables in their classes. The little ones could easily visualize the different food groups and explain. In a nutshell, the program was an ideal illustration of Bhavan’s learner-centered and life- skill based education.
