“Winners don’t do different things, they do things differently.” – This dictum stands true with regard to every event that Indian Educational School (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) has organized since its inception. Indian Educational School organized the Annual Sports Meet on 29 November, 2014 at Kaifan Stadium, Kuwait City in the chicest manner, attracting many a visitor to the venue to witness the celebration of the glory and grandeur of sports.
The mélange of colors, the daring display of dexterousness, the military precision, and above all, the gracious presence of an internationally acclaimed athlete as the guest of honor set Bhavan’s Annual Athletic Meet and Drill Display - 2014 apart from the run-of-the mill athletic meets in the country.

The guest of honor of the day was Mrs. Anju Bobby George, an ace athlete who held the tricolor high for a billion people by representing India in innumerable athletic events across the globe. He also urged the Bhavanites to emulate the philanthropic gesture of Miss Pratyusha, a grade eleven student of Bhavan Kuwait who single handedly raised an amount of INR 200,000 to help the Kashmir flood victims. It was indeed a proud moment for the Bhavan family when Mr.Sunil Jain, Hon’ble Ambassador of India to Kuwait officially and ceremoniously presented Miss Pratyusha with the original letter of appreciation from the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendara Modi.
The Kaifan stadium literally reverberated with thunderous applause when Anju Bobby George, the recipient of highest civilian honors such as Padmashree, Arjuna, and Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards, rose to address the gathering. Mrs. Anju in her short but emphatic speech reminded the children that ‘winning and losing are the two sides of a coin.’ She urged the young to take part in games and sports unmindful of triumph for participation is of paramount importance and not victory. She also urged the students to follow their dreams as the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
Students of grades 1-8 flabbergasted the spectators with their winsome drill displays – the fruits of a month long training by the faculty members of the Physical Education Department of IES. The theme for the drill display as well as the athletic meet for the year 2014 was ‘World Peace.’ Hence, the stadium looked silvery from a distance with students and teachers clad in white outfits. The drill displays captured the hearts of the onlookers. The amazing adroitness and exactitude of the young children fetched rounds of rolling applause from the gallery. The drill displays such as Free Hands Display, Hoops Drill, Shawl Display, Yoga, Human Pyramid and Flag March – all manifesting unity and peace, enthralled the spectators. The thunderous applause of appreciation showered on the performers was indeed a testimony to the diligence and determination of the highflying Physical Education Department of IES that believes in the maxim – Nothing succeeds like success.
The culmination of the colorful drill displays was marked when hundreds of ‘multi-colored balloons representing the flags of India and Kuwait’ along with ‘white balloons representing world peace’ were released by the Guest of Honor together with the senior students of IES to vow their determination to safeguard global peace and harmony. The much awaited race and relay events saw massive participation. The events were held under 16 categories including running race for pedagogues and parents.
