At a press conference held at the Indian Educational School, Kuwait, Principal Premkumar stressed upon the fact that it is for the first time that a school is organizing a competition of this magnitude especially in Kuwait, and the Middle East in general.

Dr. Rosalind Buckton-Tucker, Assistant Professor of English at the American University of Kuwait, will be the chief guest on the occasion, while Dr. Lewis R. Tucker, an adjunct faculty member, teaching online for Capella University will be the guest of honor.

The GCC Coordinator of the Spell Bee contest Mr. Suresh, elaborated on the significance of the upcoming event. More than 1000 students from various schools in Kuwait had participated in the school-level competitions held in September 2013.  Simultaneously, schools in Oman and UAE also held their primary level competitions.

The country-level contests were held in the month of November.  Representing five different categories, there were 25 contestants from various schools in Kuwait, and 17 each, representing three different categories, from UAE and Oman who qualified for the grand finale.

This mega event which will be held in Kuwait, Oman and Abu Dhabi will have four different rounds of questions.  The two candidates from each category scoring the highest points will be eligible for the championship round.  If any of these 10 spelling wizards is from the other countries, they will be asked questions from Kuwait through a video conference link, and the topper in each category will be declared as the Middle East Champion.

The champions in each category will be honored with a cash prize equivalent to fifty thousand Indian Rupees, trophies and certificates.  If the winners are from other countries, the prizes will be presented to them within five days of the announcement.
