Belgium voices concern over situation in N. Iraq

Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.

Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders on Friday expressed "extreme concern" about the developments in northern Iraq. "Greater mobilization of the international community is essential, both in humanitarian terms and in terms of security," he said in a statement.

"As he had done during his meeting on July 30 with a delegation of the Committee for the Support of Eastern Christians, the Minister reiterates its strongest condemnation of the atrocities and crimes committed by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) against civilians, especially women, children and religious minorities," noted the statement.

Reynders called on the Iraqi political forces to quickly form a broad government to meet the aspirations of the people.
