Irrespective of the level of innovation among the wicked souls in promoting their illicit goods, the ever-alert security authorities will always be on the lookout. A Bangladeshi gang that specialized in selling expired Indian rice in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area received a hard blow recently by officers from the Financial Crimes Department of General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, reports Al-Rai daily.

This gang used to repackage expired Indian rice and rebrand it as excellent-quality Pakistani rice. They would collect expired rice from all over and store it in an apartment cum- factory in Jleeb Al Shuyoukh area where they played their dirty game.

After repacking and branding the expired rice, they would sell it to various shops from where the rice would eventually end up in the stomachs of consumers. When security authorities received information about the illegal operations of the gang, the Director General of General Directorate of Criminal Investigations Major General Mohammad Al-Sharhan tasked the Financial Crimes Department to monitor and collect information to verify the wicked activities of the Bangladeshi gang.

Securitymen, in coordination with the emergency team of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, raided the factory and arrested the gang members. They confiscated a huge quantity of the rebranded expired rice bags which were ready to go to various markets. The gang members were referred to the concerned authorities. Investigations to find the printing shop that facilitated their operations are underway.
