Bangladesh embassy and community celebrate Bangla New Year

The Bangladesh Embassy in cooperation with Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait organized a day-long program at Abbasiya Touristic Park to mark the occasion of Bangla New Year with great enthusiasm and festivity.  The program, which was held on Friday, 14 April, was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kuwait H.E. S M Abul Kalam in a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Bangladeshi Ambassador visited the Pita Uthsab and Panta Ilish stalls, which consisted of homemade sweets, cookies and delicacies to celebrate the joyful occasion. He delivered a short speech to the large gathering where he mentioned that the event for celebrating the Bangla New Year, known as Mangal Shobhajatra, is organized by the Bangladesh expatriates in Kuwait. He added that the procession on Pohela Boishakh - the first day of the Bangla New year has received recognition of the United Nations Educational, Scientiļ¬c and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Then, members of the Bangladeshi community participated in a cultural show, regaling the crowd with their performances of folk, modern, choir, spiritual and patriotic songs as well as a short dance drama and more.  Apart from the aforementioned, some games were also arranged for the children and women in the venue, which added colour to the event. The Ambassador expressed his appreciation to all Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait for taking part in the colorful program. He went on to thank the Government and people of the State of Kuwait for their permission to arrange the program and for their continuous support of the Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait.
