The Philippines will reportedly lift a ban on Filipino domestic workers in the UAE in the next few days. Domestic workers are set to again be able to enter the emirates under the unified contract approved by the UAE Ministry of Interior in June 2014, reported Emirates 24/7, citing Emarat Al Youm.

An official in the Philippine Consulate in Dubai said the Consulate held a meeting with recruitment offices to inform them of the required conditions and confirmed the Philippines’ commitment to UAE recruiting laws.

Salaries for Filipino housemaids – whether new or experienced – should not be less than AED1,500, said the official. He said insurance for the maid was discussed with recruiting firms for each contract in the range of Dh36,000.

Zakaria Al Hariri, owner of Forsan Al Khaleej recruitment firm, said one of the proposals discussed by Philippine authorities was the imposition of bank guarantees of $10,000 – which was unacceptable to firms.
