The Kuwait youth organization INJAZ Kuwait, forms part of the global network of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide, this being the largest organization in the world of its kind, whose aim is to better prepare young people from school age to university for work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
The British School of Kuwait (BSK) has a long history with INJAZ Kuwait going back to 2008 and participation in the Company Program and in the intervening years they have gone from strength to strength, reflecting the varied and contemporary programs they offer and the way that these can be integrated into the curriculum at BSK.
For the academic year 2016-2017, INJAZ volunteers will continue to deliver part of the Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) program to BSK’s Secondary students.
They will visit BSK over a five-week period in February and March, teaching Personal Finance to Year 9 and Careers Success to Year 10. These types of programs are well received according to past endeavors. Having completed their Personal Economics program with Year 8 in November last, the INJAZ volunteers commented on the enthusiasm, aptitude and commitment the students displayed, and at the same time students expressed their enjoyment over working with adults from the industry and the benefits from the alternative learning perspective afforded them.
BSK is pleased to welcome back familiar faces from INJAZ, especially as two happen to be former students. Their presence in BSK and commitment to schools and colleges in Kuwait, year after year, is testament to the importance that INJAZ and local businesses place upon educating young people in the areas of financial management and career guidance. That ex-students want to be involved in preparing future generations to manage their own personal finance and think critically about their career-paths, emphasizing the true value of a balanced, rigorous education, and how making the right choices when you are young enables you to make even better choices when you have financial independence.
