The British School of Kuwait (BSK) held a special flag raising ceremony as part of its Thursday morning Assembly to celebrate the special anniversaries of 2016. BSK celebrated the state’s 55th National Day and Silver Jubilee anniversary of Liberation Day when Head Boy, Hussam Al Nashar and Head Girl, Sina Abou Sedu presented a flag to Founder and Director Madame Vera Al Mutawa MBE before proceeding to hoist the flag for all to see.
This was followed by the National Anthem performed by the BSK Brass and Wind ensemble and watched by Secondary students and staff at morning lineup.
Kuwait has been designated the Islamic Capital of Culture for 2016 and this event provided the opportunity for the BSK La Camerata group, recent winners of the Young Musician of the Gulf Competition in Bahrain, to close the celebrations with a performance of a Waltz and Polka by Shostakovich.
This event is one of a series of events being held by BSK during the month of February to honour Kuwait. A group of Year 9 students performed a traditional Kuwaiti Wedding as part of the February meeting of The International Women’s Group on Sunday and later in the month parents of younger students will be invited to enjoy a theatrical performance of Kuwaiti culture and dance.
