BSK goes Pink for Cancer Care
October 17, 2016, 12:28 pm

For a number of years now the coordination of global efforts to raise awareness of Breast Cancer has meant that educational and fundraising events in this area have become firmly established as important events on the annual calendar at this time of year.

The British School of Kuwait (BSK) has been associated with this for almost fifteen years. First launched back in 2002, the fundraising baton has since been passed to successive groups of students who, led by the Sixth Form, work together to organise a month long programme of events.

This year the Pink Thursday and the Pink Saturday programme of activities were coordinated by Year 13 students Saad Atif Zahoor, Meral Al-Shair, Dayne Hall, Joanna Younes, Roseanne Ismail and Elia Davi in support of Al Sidra Association for Psychological Care of Cancer Patients.

On 15 October, BSK went Pink with a host of Sixth Form student-led activities on offer, including face-painting, arts corner, sporting challenges, and the ever popular Soak the Teacher!

Among the entertainment provided on stage was the Great British Bake Off, featuring stunning baked creations from the teachers.

The judging panel consisting of Alexia Lodge, the wife of H.E. the British Ambassador, Jafar Al-Gamaly representing Red Crescent, President of BLS Julie Fautley and Executive Director of Al-Sidra Association Manal Shadeed, along with Director and Founder of BSK Madame Vera Al-Mutawa, had a very difficult time choosing the winner with all the delicious options available.

While funds during the month will go to Al Sidra Association, a number of fundraising companies were also present at the event such as the Red Crescent who received a cheque from TSK along with the Cancer Awareness Nation who offered blood tests to visitors during the event.

BSK is proud to lead the way in promoting corporate social responsibility as part of its philosophy of education, something which the senior students have exemplified in having organised such a successful event in aid of so worthy a cause. BSK also acknowledges the invaluable support of Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Bookeey Application, IKEA and Gulf Nawras, and Taal Restaurant whose generosity has made it possible to break last year’s record of KD4000, and ensured the success of the event.
