A group of 24 Middle Department students from The British School of Kuwait (BSK) and their coaches visited Spain during the Spring break to enjoy the delights of world class football. They were there to experience a week in the shoes of a professional footballer as part of the La Liga package provided by trip organisers Trans-World Soccer.
The week began in Barcelona with a challenge match against local opposition. The BSK teams were well organised and provided tough opposition to their Spanish counter-parts, however both the U12 and U14 sides tired near the end of the match and the Spanish teams 'tiki-taka' style of play proved too much.
Students were treated to the delights of Camp Nou the following day, soaking up the Barcelona sun whilst standing in awe when looking at the sheer size of the Barcelona stadium. Then it was a short trip across the city to be welcomed by specialist academy coaches at Espanyol F.C, who then took the students through a technical session, developing an active first touch and possession strategies.
The following day was spent in the Port Aventura theme park where students had the chance to ride the tallest roller coaster in Europe! The group then transferred to Madrid and checked in to their new hotel in preparation for the big game. Following two top-level coaching sessions with Coach Alejandro from Real Madrid, the students were in for a treat when they witnessed the Real Madrid v Villareal match at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid ran out 3-0 victors on the night and played the most impressive style of attacking football, leaving the students stunned and motivated to improve.
Overall, it was an amazing week, where students had the chance to live out their dreams and see their favourite footballers in action. They truly felt like professional footballers and already are asking about next year’s trip. The BSK squad was a credit to their school and to their families.
