Awitan at Tawanan 4 marks Philippine Independence Day celebration

The Alliance of Filipino Organizations in Kuwait marked the celebration of the 116th Philippine Independence Day in Kuwait with a successful concert “Awitan at Tawanan 4” held at the Al Arabi Gym. The event was attended by more than 2,000 Filipinos and other nationals to witness Asia’s Pop Princess Julie Anne San Jose and comic acts by Iya and Super Tekla, Gladys Guevara and Rey Pumaloy sizzled the momentous occasion.

In a brief interview with Overall-Chairperson of ALLFilOK Dr. Chie Umandap commented “Amidst the scorching hot and humid weather, OFWs arrived in the area as early as 1PM immediately after the doors opened. We thank oooredoo, GMA Pinoy TV and My HD and sponsors for the generous contribution in making this occasion successful and possible”. Consul general Atty. Raul Dado, Consul Jabbar Adiong, Labor Attaché Cesar Chavez, Assistant Labor Attaché Ching Ardivilla, Welfare Officer Norlita Lugtu and other labor officials and embassy personnel graced the occasion.

The event kicked-off with a powerful routine by Pilates and More instructors and followed by The Morning Talk hosts Jane, Leica, Ian and Willie with couple of games to the delight of the audience. Prizes from Qatar Airways and GMA Pinoy TV and My HD were given out to the participants. Students of the New Kuwait Philippine International School paid tribute to OFWs with a creative interpretation depicting different work designates of Filipinos abroad.

The Philippine national anthem immediately followed. Vocalists Raymond Onia, Aby Dado, Shaima Khuraibet, Chris Martin and Jennifer Uy backed up dancers Imabeast, Filipino Cultural Club, and Pilates and More mesmerized the crowd with their remarkable vocal renditions of Filipino songs from the 80’s. Entertainment columnist Rey Pumaloy rendered two songs and answered questions from the audience about their favorite Filipino artists. Unbeatable comic duo Iya and Tekla took the crowd to a different realm of comedy. “We were in tears laughing with their hilarious acts, it was one of the best memories we will always treasure,” commented Accountant Nats Corrales and Cooperative Asst. Manager Jerry Reyes. Singer comedienne Gladys Guevara rendered four songs to the delight of the crowd.

Asia’s Pop Princess, main stay actress in Pepito Manaloto Show and regular performer at Sunday All Stars Julie Anne San Jose belted out five songs and got the crowd cheering for more. San Jose ended her performance with “Meet and Greet” audience on stage, where she generously took pictures with everyone. “It was so touching to see my kababayans in Kuwait so eager to meet artists like us, I thank the organizers my home network GMA 7 for bringing us closer to them and the opportunity to be here in such wonderful country” commented San Jose.
