Ambassador of Austria H.E. Sigurd Pacher welcomed a large gathering to a celebration marking his country’s National Day, at his residence on 31 October. Assistant Foreign Minister for Europe Affairs Waleed Al-Khubaizi was the chief guest at the function. Ambassador Al-Khubaizi hailed the excellent relations between Kuwait and Austria since 1965, in various fields, especially in the economic and commercial domains, in addition to private investments and oil investments between the two countries.

In 1867, Austria formed a dual monarchy with Hungary: the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1867– 1918). In October 1918 even before the World War I officially ended, the Austro-Hungarian Empire began to break up. The emperor abdicated on 11 November 1918 and the next day the Republic of Austria was declared. Austria is well-known for its scenic beauty framed by its rugged Alpine terrain and its remarkable architecture that includes elegant palaces from its imperial past.
