Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah (DAI) hosted a special performance by renowned Algerian singer and a mondol virtuoso - Abdelkader Chaou at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre on 18 March. Abdelkader Chaou has earned fame in Algeria for his unique style of chaâbi music, which translates into ‘folk’ music, and refers to different music genres in North Africa. Chaabi music is frequently found in weddings and this style is often associated with festivals.

His musical repertoire contains both light cheerful songs as well as sad ones, borrowed from the Iberian or Andalusian music tradition. Abdelkader Chaou lives in Algeria where he continues to perform in various venues. His laudable achievements earned him recognition from his peers that lead to a tribute concert in his honor in 2013, acknowledging his rich and stellar career.
