Minister of Public Works Electricity and Water Ahmad Khalid Ahmad Al-Jassar on Monday opened Al-Sabiya power plant adding new 523 megawatt to state electricity production capacity. Al-Jassar highlighted the ministry's strategy to achieve power projects so as to meet the rising needs of urban expansion and local development plans.
The newly-opened plant includes two open-cycle gas turbines, each provides 261megwatt, the minister said, noting that the latest available technology is used for the operation of Al-Sabiya. The plant's contract, worth KD 122 million, was signed last May.
Thus, the ministry's total production of electricity rose to 15,482 megawatt, the minister said, urging citizens and expats to rationalize power consumption, especially during the summer season.
