Minister of Public Works Abdulrahman Al-Mutawaa said Wednesday that the ongoing maintenance, construction, and renovation works at Gulf Street by Al-Bida'a roundabout are currently between 30 and 40 percent of completion in line with the project's timeframe. One of the project's works is constructing a bridge at Al-Bida'a roundabout, of which route will be open by early 2018, Al-Mutawaa told reporters upon taking an inspection tour to the project's site.

The project's implementation went well at first, but then stumbled in later phases, prompting the ministry to hand it to a new contractor to accelerate the implementation process and avoid further delays, said the minister.

Al-Mutawaa also mentioned that he has paid an inspection visit earlier to Mangaf's bridge and roundabout location to evaluate the state of traffic jam the site sees on daily bases.

A deal was struck with representatives of MOI's General Directorate of Traffic to solve the traffic jam in Mangaf area by designing new exits. Meanwhile, Al-Mutawaa mentioned that a new director-general has been assigned for the Public Authority Roads and Transportation, adding that a new board of directors will be formed later to complete the authority's organizational structure.
