The Al-Argan International Real Estate Company announced the launching of a country-wide art competition for students at governmental and private universities in Kuwait. The event in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program, Kuwait (UNDP) and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) is to encourage the spirit of innovation and artistic creativity of the youth, and to provide them with the support necessary for their careers.
The competition is titled Power of Life to emphasize the importance of art in shaping peoples’ lives and to transfer cultures, feelings and experiences through generations. In addition, it is highlighting the dreams and goals young generations aim to achieve. The standards of selecting the winning paintings depend on the level of creativity and techniques students employ, and the level of awareness towards the basic scale of drawing and painting.
All that comes to reflect the theme of the exhibition, ‘Power of Life’ will determine the awards which are financial grants, a spokesperson of Al- Argan said. “The goal of this competition is to improve the cultural activities associated with ‘Fine Arts’ and to highlight our contribution to the development of social activities that align with Kuwait as a cultural and social centre, in addition to sending a message to the youth that their talents will always be of interest to our society and country”, stressed Mahmoud O Ammach, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketting.
Dima Al-Khatib, UNDP Deputy Representative noted that the UNDP is participating in this event to strengthen the program’s objectives for this millennium and for opening the doors of hope for young talents to show their technical capabilities and achieve their creative concepts. Dr. Sulaiman Al-Askari, Former Secretary General of NCCAL and Former Editor-in-Chief of Al Arabi Magazine praised this great idea of Al-Argan.
“We were surprised by the level of drawings submitted by the university students in the first year. Thus this year I noticed visible improvement. On this occasion I would like to give a message for the universities that they should spread cultural and artistic awareness. The knowledge of arts helps the students in their future life as they are going to build a family and deal with kids and the community. So one particular field of study is not enough,” he pointed out.
The number of participants ranges between 6-8 students from each university. The participating universities are Kuwait University, American University of the Middle East, American University of Kuwait, Australian College of Kuwait, Gulf University for Science and Technology, Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.
At the end of the press conference, Al-Argan expressed its deepest gratitude to their golden sponsors, UNDP, Burgan Bank and C-Club, in addition to all other sponsors - Four Films Company, Four Fest Company, Ingredients Events Company and Moghawi Stationery.
