March 28, 2015, 3:05 pm

The Assistance to the Nationals Unit Shelter of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Kuwait held a one day event in its premises in Hateen. The successful event put together by Vice Consul Sheina Tesorero, Department of Social Welfare Officer Annie Mendoza and officers of the shelter included self-defense, Zumba, medical mission and personal grooming. The occasion was graced by Charges D’ Affaires (CDA) Atty. Raul Dado and his spouse Chelsie Dado.

The event kicked-off with the Philippine National Anthem led by Germana Fabrigar and prayers by Joan Acero and Salaha Salahodin. The Philippine Catsclaw Martial Arts and Self Defense Team lead step by step self defense and basic martial arts demonstration. DSWD Officer Annie Mendoza later delivered a brief lecture on personal hygiene followed by Ilokana Women’s Organization in Kuwait (IWOK) officer Farida Halimi’s briefer on importance of grooming. The Gym Team headed by Jannet Diokno and Lyle Colina perked the morning with a 30-minute Zumba prior to lunch.

In her welcome remarks, Chelsie Dado stressed the importance of participating in the day’s event and thanked the volunteers for making the occasion successful and remarkable. “This event is all made possible by these generous organizations and volunteers who gave their time and effort selflessly, thus we all need to take advantage of such opportunity”, commented Dado.

Immediately after lunch, the medical team spearheaded and organized by Pinoy Nurses Association in Kuwait (PNA) held medicine donations, free check–ups on sugar, cholesterol, dental, gyne, pediatrics, blood pressure and others for all the wards and those who attended the said occasion. Hair cut, massage, nail cleaning, perm and make-up services were rendered by the volunteers from IWOK on the second floor of the shelter.

Certificates of recognition and appreciation for all the volunteers were awarded by CDA Atty. Raul Dado. “I thank all of you for making this very successful event possible and truly thank your generosity and deep concern for our distressed workers currently seeking refuge in the shelter. May God bless you all”, commented CDA Dado.

To show their appreciation, selected women in the shelter presented a short program with a comedy skit and vocal renditions to the delight of everyone. ATNU shelter plans to organize a bloodletting drive in coming month and other mission works in support of the embassy shelter Hateen. The event was hosted by ATNU Officer Ramon Nerida.'
