ASSE changes name to American Society of Safety Professionals

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Kuwait Chapter is a premier voluntary, non-profit making Health, Safety and Environmental organization, which strives to provide professional guidance, training, consultancy and resources to the industrial and social sectors in the region.

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) members globally showed a great vision in taking the historic step to approve the name change from 1 June as American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP).

ASSP Kuwait Chapter chairman Fadhel Al Ali expressed his view that the new name would eliminate confusion about who can join the organization and be more inclusive, which will encourage more members to join the society.

ASSP Kuwait Chapter conducted its Annual General Body Meeting for the year 2017-18 on 25 June at KOC’s Executive Tent, Ahmadi Township. More than 150 members of the Chapter attended the meeting.

Al Ali Chairman of the ASSP Kuwait Chapter in his opening speech extolled the activities performed by the office bearers of 2017-18 under the leadership of the President Muhammad Alamgir and wished a successful year for the next team for the new term.

Alamgir, President ASSP KC, in his presidential address highlighted the achievement by the chapter to conduct two major events HSSE Professional Development Conference and GCC HSE Excellence award in one-year term. He mentioned that all the chapter programs were focused towards chapter objectives like professional development of the members, chapter growth and protecting people, property and environment in the region.

He stated that chapter was able to implement all its planned activities successfully only with the unconditional voluntary support of the ASSP Executive committee members. He conveyed his appreciation to the chapter Elected members, Executive Committee, Advisory Committee, Advisory Board, Chairman, sponsors, ASSP US president, Global region Vice President and the chapter members for the efforts, support and encouragement for all the activities during the year. Alamgir also conveyed gratitude to CEO’s and HSE Leaders of various state owned and private sector organizations and Governmental agencies of Kuwait. He declared that the chapter year 2017-18 will be remembered and as one of the successful year in the chapter history.

Sunil N Sadanandan, Chapter Secretary, appreciated the efforts of the Committees. He stated that during this chapter term many new initiatives were taken and gave the brief summary of the activities conducted during the year in brief by highlighting the major activities, achievements and awards received during the term.

The Chief Guest for the program Fares Al-Mansori, Team Leader (QHSE) of Kuwait Oil Company applauded the Kuwait Chapter activities and assured KOC’s support towards the chapter activities.    

Jahid Thakor, Chapter Treasurer presented the financial report for the chapter with the revenue and expenditure for the year 2017-18.

As a token of gratitude for the efforts during the year, the chapter Chairman Fadhel Al-Ali presented the elected core committee members, committee heads, subcommittee members and Advisory Committee members with mementos and letter of appreciation.

In addition,  the Executive committee also recognized the members who have completed 15 years and 10 years membership with ASSE Kuwait logo lapel pins for their continuous support to the chapter.

Aamir Rasheed, Elected President of ASSP Kuwait Chapter for the year 2018-19 introduced the elected members for the new term 2018-19, along with the nominated head of committees and Advisory Committee Members.

In the closing ceremony, Mr. Aamir Rasheed thanked all the members for their participation and wished the new team a successful year ahead.
