ALSAYER Holding in association with Patients Helping Fund Society and Aafaq Bookstore held a book reading campaign titled ‘Read & Save Lives’ that allowed people and community to express empathy with patients suffering chronic kidney disease and undergoing dialysis.

For every 10 pages read by the participants, ALSAYER Holding donated One Kuwait Dinar to financially support deserving patients to manage the high cost of kidney treatments. Meanwhile, Aafaq Bookstore facilitated the place and allocated 10 percent of the days book sales to the Patients Helping Fund Society.

The event, which was held on 22 September between 10am and 10pm witnessed the participation by 137 people who collectively read a total of 7400 pages.

Many authors and influential figures from the Kuwait society joined to support this noble cause, including the Chairman of Patients Helping Fund Society, Jamal Al-Fouzan, International Trainer Human Development, Hessa Al-Hashash, Kuwaiti author Manayer Al-Awwad, Kuwait radio announcer, Faisal Hmuod Al-Shammari, and the Deputy Group Manager Toyota Group Service Division, Ahmad El-Issawi.

“The positive spirit among the community was overwhelming and the marathon was part of our efforts to develop reading and educational habits, while getting the community to act towards critical issues that require their attention and moral support,” said the Manager CSR at ALSAYER Holding, Shibu Mohamed.

The Deputy General Manager of Aafaq Bookstore, Hamad Al-Shammari, added, “We are glad to work on this program that encourages people to dedicate time to read and support society. The initiative is also an attempt to recapture the reading habits, especially among youth, towards building an intellectual community with competitive skills.”

According to Khaled Al-Hendy Director of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Patients Helping Fund Society “We saw people from various age and gender category visiting on their weekends to support other fellow human beings. Such empathy shows the great culture and community bond Kuwait promotes.”
