The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) subcommittee on parliamentary excellence has unanimously voted Tuesday evening to award Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim in appreciation of his efforts to serve the Arab causes.
The AIPU awards fall in four categories - parliament speakers, MPs, secretaries general, and parliamentary researches, said Allam Al-Khandari, the secretary general of the National Assembly.
"The members of AIPU subcommittee agreed that Al-Ghanim made exemplary efforts and hectic contacts with the national parliaments of the Arab countries during the last two years to address the Arab causes, particularly the Palestin one," Al-Kandari told KUNA.
He noted that Al-Ghanim's efforts led to the convening of the AIPU annual meetings in Kuwait for three successive times.
The current meeting of the AIPU subcommittee on parliamentary excellence is part of the 16th session of the Union's executive committee.
Kuwait delegation to the meetings is led by MP Faisal Al-Shaye', and includes treasurer of the National Assembly MP Saleh Ashour and MP Saif Al-Azmi along with Al-Kandari.
