KFH lifts AUB Cup Final / AUB bags plate final trophy
In a very exciting & nail biting finish, Kuwait Finance House prevailed over Boubyan Bank to win the handsome Ahli United Bank Cup league 2014 by a narrow margin of 1 wicket in a match played between two top teams of the Bank league tournament organized by Kuwait Cricket. Indeed the result was practically a repeat of the KBC trophy played earlier between the two teams when Boubyan was unlucky to be runners up in a rain affected match.
Boubyan Bank winning the toss elected to bat first and their prolific opener Aamir continued his magnificent performance in this final too and played a cameo knock of 68 runs which had 7 well timed sixes & 2 fours. Right through this series Boubyan Bank has highlighted yet again the team's all-round strength which makes them such a formidable team in the banking league. Rifkas Ibrahim started well with a superb six over long on but lobbed a catch with 17 runs to his credit.
Hisham Mirza joined Aamir and the duo formed such an effective pair and given their side countless great starts, once again put up another superb display of classic batsmanship. Hisham Mirza illustrated how comfortable batting could be by skillful display of a variety of strokes which fetched him 5 sixes & two hits to the fence while scoring 51 runs in 23 balls. Faraaz, the Boubyan skipper played a brief but useful knock of 14 runs and Boubyan after 20 overs did well to post a decent total of 178 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Nizar & Arif claimed two wickets each for KFH while Faraz & Irfan Bhatti accounted for one each.
Zahid & Nizar opened for KFH and did well to post 52 runs for the first wicket. Zahid was at his very best by striking the cherry with awesome power to clout 6 sixes to score 52 runs in just 26 balls. Hisham Mirza bowling his off-breaks from the garden end finally broke the stand by taking two quick wickets to put brakes to KFH run chase. This brought Irfan Bhatti & KFH skipper Faraaz to the crease and the two steadied the innings by taking the score to 110 as both fell in quick succession to Aamir & Faraaz which brought KFH in the back foot.
The ever dependable Wicket keeper batsman Mohammed Irfan & Abdulla, the last recognized pair joined together and both the batsmen matched each other with superb driving in particular, skilful placement for ones and twos. Abdulla in particular, with an injured fingered played an innings of his lifetime with a scintillating knock of 63 runs with 5 huge sixes & 4 boundaries. Irfan scored 21 useful runs and the match went till the last but two balls for KFH to win the second trophy of the season. Hisham Mirza with 3 for 44 & Faraaz 2 for 26 were the main wicket takers for Boubyan. Abdulla for his fabulous knock and turning the match in KFH’s favor was declared Player of the match.
Earlier, Ahli United Bank lifted the Plate final trophy by comfortably overcoming the spirited fight back led by debutants Commercial Bank. On a wicket assisting spinners, CBK batting first mustered 95 runs in their allotted 20 overs. A dashing knock of 39 runs in just 16 balls aided by 4 neatly struck sixes & two fours by Osman was the highlight of CBK’s innings. AUB spinners, particularly their skipper Mahmoud Bastaki ( 3 for 16), Fahad Bastaki (2 for 1) & Hisham Mukadam (2 for 8) bowled well.
Putting up a brave fight back, CBK accounted for two quick wickets but Dinesh playing sensible cricket for AUB top scored with 41 runs to his credit and along with Mahmoud Bastaki who scored a polished 24 runs took AUB to victory. Osman & Rahul bowled well for CBK by taking a wicket each. Dinesh of AUB was declared player of the match for his batting display.
Thamer Zahran, Head of Ahli United Bank’s Marketing Division presented the Cup & Plate Winners & Runners Up trophies to the Captains of KFH, Boubyan, AUB & CBK teams. Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait was presented with a Fair play award trophy for their role in playing the game in its true spirits. Riaz Chaudhary gave the vote of thanks and thanked the sponsor & all the bank teams for their participation and support.
