Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Facilities and Sentences Execution Affairs in the Ministry of Interior Major General Khaled Al-Dayeen affirmed that the ministry endeavors to achieve the goals set for correctional facilities in the country, and to serve citizens and expatriates in the best way possible.
He made the disclosure at a press conference on Sunday Sept 18 held inside the ministry’s headquarters (Nawaf Al-Ahmad Building) and attended by Director General of Sentences Execution Major General Majid Al-Majid concerning the project of holding trial sessions to support the Department of Civil Execution affiliated to the Directorate General of Sentence Execution in Suleibiya area.
Major General Al-Dayeen pointed to serious coordination with the Department of Judgment Execution in the Ministry of Justice in the framework of improving work, and to facilitate and simplify procedures in the Directorate General of Sentence Execution by establishing a specialized unit to look into cases involving debts, especially if the suspects were arrested through concerned agencies of the Interior Ministry.
Al-Dayeen indicated the objective is to make it easy for the arrested debtors to be arraigned before judges in the Department of Civil Execution affiliated to the Directorate General of Sentence Execution, while reducing the burden of litigation procedures on debtors to save human resources in guarding debtors transported to the courts, and also reduce the financial expense on transport and insurance.
He stressed that judges will be present on a daily basis to look into cases involving debtors who are arraigned before them in order to take necessary measures through payment of the debt on cash, installment or rescheduling of the debt. He pointed out that the department in the near future will be linked electronically with the Department of Judgment Execution at Ministry of Justice to lift travel ban and take necessary legal measures against debtors arrested through the Interior Ministry.
In his role, the Director General of Sentences Execution Major General Majid Al-Majid revealed that security forces have arrested 6,895 debtors since the beginning of 2016, and the new unit will assume its duties after a trial period, which will next week.
