'Public Space for Peace' event draws a large crowd

The United Nations Human Settlements Program UN-Habitat in collaboration with Al Salmiya Group for Enterprise Development opened its 'Public Space for Peace' celebratory event, alongside Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah and Mayor of Salmiya Area Mohamad Hazzam Al Athain.

Organized to mark 10 years of productive collaboration between UN-Habitat and Kuwait, this interactive community event was held on 15 and 16 March at Boulevard Park and highlighted the importance of an open public space in Kuwait districts that is socially engaging and impactful within the community.

A major highpoint of the festival was the 'International Tasting Bazaar', which presented a variety of cultures and food specialties sponsored by embassies in Kuwait along with the participation of small and medium enterprises.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ameera Al Hassan Deputy of Zena Ali Ahmad, Director of UN-Habitat Regional Office pointed out that this collaboration between the UN-Habitat and Boulevard aims to bring together people, and represents the culmination of the cooperation between private sector and UN organizations along with participation of all sectors of the society.

Dr. Ameera added, “Bringing in cultural diversity by enriching residents experience in a variety of international food dishes, representing different regions of the world, creating cross-cultural friendships., this is part of our mandate to update and inform all residents of Kuwait on the international pillars of what makes a community sustainable by promoting both the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).”

As part of the program, a competition encouraged children from schools to display their talents by submitting drawings of their ideas on the theme ‘My Future City Model’.
