The NationaI Assembly turned over to the govemment a proposal for amending the 2010 law regarding the establishment of shareholding Kuwaiti companies specializingin in the construction of power plants and water desalination plants, it was learned here on Tuesday.
The proposal was unanimously approved in its second reading by the lawmakers. The proposal for the amendment would give the ministry of electncity and water a free hand in supporting the state's technical apparatuses in the study and planning for more power plants and water desalination plants, said the minister of eletricity and water Ahmad Al-Jassar, during the Assembly's regular session today.
The amendment states that the ministry of electricity and water can construct however many power and water plants it needs, provided the prior approval of the government.
Following the unanimous vote on the proposal for the amendment, the lawmakers furthermore endorsed two recommendations related to protecting the environment at the site of the construction of any new power plants and water desalination plants. The National Assembly is scheduled to meet tomorrow.
