‘Know India’ seminar delves into India tourism

India Tourism Dubai in collaboration with the Indian Embassy discussed India’s tourism sector in a seminar titled ‘Know India’, at the Holiday Inn Hotel-Salmiya, on Sunday, 23 October. The Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Sunil Jain, who was the chief guest, addressed a large gathering of representatives from travel and tour operators and media. Assistant Director India Tourism Dubai I.R.V. Rao delivered an in-depth presentation that outlined India’s tourism industry and explained why people would want to view India as the best tourist destination. 

Highlighting that India’s tourism sector has seen a rise in domestic and foreign tourists, Mr. Rao said that the number of foreign tourist arrivals into India has grown to 8 million in 2015, representing  an annual growth rate of 4.5 percent. On tourists from Kuwait, he mentioned, "Around 13,000 Kuwaitis visited India on tourist visa last year and we are expecting an increase of 10% this year." 

He went on to emphasize various features of India’s tourism in niche segments such as Wellness and Medical tourism, Adventure and Wildlife tourism, Film tourism, Monsoon tourism, Sports tourism and MICE tourism among others. He explained that these tourism sectors have been developed to attract travelers with different interests and showcase India as a multi-faceted tourist destination.

He also spent time introducing the gathering to the cultural, heritage and spiritual facets of the country, which has been the hallmark of its tourism sector and enchanted travelers over the ages.
